Sr Director Corporate Safety

POSITION PURPOSE:  The purpose of the of the Corporate SR Director Safety is to streamline, direct and focus all divisional and field safety, loss control and risk management activities into a single, coherent, and purpose-directed enterprise-wide risk management practice. 
 
Working from within Albertson’s Risk Management Department, this position will be responsible for developing, directing, managing and delivering the successful implementation and long-term maintenance of the accident prevention programs which address the accident causes which are driving workers compensation and general liability claim expense.  This position is located in Boise as the home office.
 
This position is designed to improve and assure operational clarity and efficiency within the Corporate Risk Management Department and to drive consistent, measurable and sustainable cost savings to the Divisions through improved delivery of modern risk management, accident prevention and loss control support services.
 
In order to be effective, this position will work closely with Division Presidents and the Albertsons Retail, Distribution, Manufacturing and Transportation leadership to maximize an enterprise wide approach to risk management.
 
 
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Manage the successful development, implementation and long-term sustainability of accident prevention programs which address the accident causes which are driving workers compensation and general liability claim expense
  • Achieve a sustainable 25% reduction in incurred claim costs. Year one should achieve 10%
  • Develop cost reducing, accident prevention tasks which can be implemented immediately
  • Assess, recalibrate, reorganize and manage all Albertsons corporate safety activities and projects
  • Manage the integration and collaboration of all operational safety and risk management activities into Albertsons retail, distribution, manufacturing and transportation segments of the company
  • Assist in promoting sustainable cost efficiency of the corporate risk management function
  • Has the authority to formulate, affect, interpret or implement management policies or operating practices.  Implementation will be dependent upon gaining the buy-in and support of these programs from the Division Presidents
  • Provides consultation or expert advice to management
  • Is involved in planning long term and short-term business objectives
  • Investigates and resolves matters of significance on behalf of management
  • Represents the company in handling complaints, arbitrating disputes or resolving grievances
 
 
 
 
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
 
Education Level:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree 
 
Experience Level:
  • 10 years’ enterprise-wide operational risk management expertise
  • 10 years’ experience working in the retail industry with exposure to retail, distribution, manufacturing, and transportation
  • 6 years’ leading effective teams
 
Skills and Experiences:
  • Strong knowledge of retail accident prevention programs
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and EPA regulations
  • Strong project design and project management/execution skills
  • Strong project team development and communications skills
  • Strong operational expertise
  • Strong influencing and leadership skills designed to resolve complex company issues and affect behavioral change within the entire organization
  • Responsibility and oversight of the development and implementation of safety policies and procedures throughout the organization
  • Responsibility and oversight of large scale training programs
  • Strong analytical, planning and organizational skills to manage and execute large scale safety projects with high financial impact to the company
  • Strong ability to communicate programs effectively within all levels of management and throughout the organization
  • Strong background in retail operations and safety program design and implementation
 
 
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:   50 to 70%
 
 
 
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:  
 
  • Work may be performed in a temperature-controlled environment
  • Must sit, stand or walk for extended periods of time
  • May spend long periods of time at desk or computer terminal
  • May use calculators, keyboards, telephone, and other office equipment in the course of normal workday
  • Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be required in completion of job duties
  • Workday is fast paced, some evening and weekend work will be required
