Financial Analyst-AVIA PBM

Position Title: Financial Analyst – AVIA Partners, a wholly owned subsidiary of Safeway Inc. 

 

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Financial Analyst generates reporting on key financial metrics that promotes financial accountability and highlights risks and opportunities for AVIA Partners, a wholly owned subsidiary of Safeway Inc. 

• Assist in the development of financial plans, forecasts, and ad hoc analyses as needed
• Refine reporting and analysis by developing new performance metrics, measurements, methods, and targets to improve insight into the business and operations
• Assist in the development of financial models, collect and evaluate data, make appropriate assumptions, analyze results, and make recommendations to support business decisions
• Balance books and prepare profit and loss, cash flow, income and balance sheet statements.  
• Monitor monthly reports of revenues and expenditures for projects create and invoice all clients in addition to reconciling all payments. Provides record of assets, liabilities and other financial transactions.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: 

• Develops and generates financial reporting as appropriate for management or various state and local governmental taxing authorities (sales and profitability, working capital, expenses, etc.)
• Refines reporting by identifying new performance metrics, etc. to provide further insight into the business or operations.  Closing activities including journal entries, allocations, and Profit and Loss analysis

• Assists in preparing annual operating plan and recurring forecasts. 
• Assists in preparing ad hoc analysis as needed.  Develops framework / methodology best suited for analysis, makes appropriate assumptions, gathers data, analyzes results and make recommendations relative to reserves and expenses.
• Identifies opportunities and risks from financial trends and presents findings to management.
• Interacts with appropriate business partners to share and explain financial information.
• Review invoices for payment and accrue amounts due for various liabilities

 

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

• 4-year college degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics or equivalent experience
• 5-7 years experience in addition to the education listed above

• Familiar with a variety of the concepts, practices, and procedures found in Finance organizations.
• Strong knowledge of and experience with MS Office Suite (Excel and Access, Word & PowerPoint)
• Knowledge of Hyperion Essbase and SQL
• Knowledge of relational databases (both PC and mainframe)
• Knowledge of financial analysis, P&L structure & drivers, etc.
• Good organizational and analytical skills with ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines
• High degree of initiative, accuracy and adaptability
• Self-motivated with the ability to complete work with a minimum of supervision
• Ability to meet rigid time constraints

• Honest and trustworthy, exhibiting the strongest business ethics
• Highly effective customer service and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• 1 - 2 years accounting analytics experience in a large organization with mainframe based accounting
• Good theoretical and practical knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)

KEY CONTACTS:

• There is frequent communication with key stakeholders in AVIA Partners.
• There is communication with other areas of finance (NASC, FP&A teams, etc.) and other support groups as needed.
